STERLING really began all the way back in 1959. To help a neighbor regain their independence, Ray Biddle designed one of the world's first lightweight electric wheelchairs. 30 years later, and eager to regain his own freedom whilst recovering from an accident, Ray and his team at BEC Mobility took their knowledge of powered mobility and applied it to the idea of a mobility device for those with limited mobility. That idea would become one of the world's first mobility scooters. With the introduction of the STERLING scooter in 1988, its name became personified with freedom and independence. And STERLING remains just as passionate today about getting you where you want to go.
