Why carbon fiber?
Carbon fiber has long been used in many industries and has been available in wheelchairs for a number of years. And for good reason - carbon fiber is five times stronger than steel, and stiffer and lighter than any other materials like Aluminum and Titanium. However, traditional carbon fiber manufacturing processes produced wheelchairs that were both heavier than intended and with reduced ride rigidity. We knew that carbon fiber was the perfect material of choice for the QUICKIE/SOPUR Krypton, so we persisted to optimize how carbon fiber is manufactured, with the aim to create the perfect balance of strength and rigidity. The result was X-Braid Technology.
X-Braid Technology explained
Unlike traditional manufacturing techniques where carbon is layered, the revolutionary X-BRAID technology that we used on the QUICKIE/SOPUR Krypton creates a constant weave in the frame tubing, ensuring zero weak links and delivering a precise and consistent result every time. Once the carbon tube has been braided, it's sealed with a resin for strength. The result is a seamless carbon-fiber frame at the lowest possible weight with the highest-possible stiffness. The combination of X-BRAID combined with the many other unique technologies and market-leading materials truly push the Krypton to the next level
