"My passion is to set goals, fight for them and reach them. Always trying to make it better and optimizing every detail in the process."
A wheelchair basketball team mate convinced me to buy this used hand bike. From there, I was instantly hooked on the sport, it was a natural substitute for marathon running as I love the speed of racing. Hand-biking gave me a new purpose in life. Hand-biking helped me find a way out of my crisis after my traffic accident. It allowed me to set goals - a reason to fight for something. In 2010, after having worked for 3 years as an auditor, I was introduced to professional handcycling after which I quit my job, dedicating myself 100% to the sport.
In 2003, when I was 22 years old, I had a motorbike accident, in which I damaged my spinal cord and became paralyzed in the legs. After rehabilitation I finished my university studies, a masters degree in Law and Economics and worked 3 years as an auditor. In 2010 I put my business career on hold to focus 100% on handbike sport and I joined Team Sunrise two years later.
When the race calendar allows it I give lectures in schools, in which I tell the story about my traffic accident and my struggle to “come back to life” as well as visiting Danish rehability centers for spinal cord injured, where I try to inspire the newly injured with my story and accomplishments – and perhaps recruit new handbikers to our community.
